About Nausheen Naila Hakim, D.O.
Caring for patients with cancer and blood disorders has evolved in the past few years and many exciting new treatments are available for our patients. My job is to be able to bring these advancements to my patients of all backgrounds. Providing high quality care for every single patient is very important to me. I want to be there for my patients.
I believe that how we talk about cancer and patients has a lot of impact on overall care. For example, you are not a “cancer patient”, but a person who currently has cancer. Just as not all patients are the same, not all cancers are the same. Treatment plans should reflect that.
I specialize in genitourinary cancers: prostate cancer, renal cell carcinoma, bladder cancers, and testicular cancers, and in creating a plan of action for the treatment of these cancers my approach takes the whole patient into consideration. This includes prioritizing each patient’s current and future treatment goals, as well as understanding any other priorities for patients and their families. Additionally, as a female oncologist, I also believe it is important to bring diversity into this field to provide a unique perspective on the care for patients.
Dr. Nausheen Hakim is an Assistant Professor of Clinical Medicine at ÈÕ±¾avÉ«ÇéƬ and an Attending Physician at New York-Presbyterian Queens (NYPQ). She has a special interest in the area of genitourinary cancers. After obtaining her bachelor of arts in anthropology while pursuing the pre-medicine track, she volunteered for one year with AmeriCorps at the nonprofit South Asian Youth Action (SAYA). She attended the New York College of Osteopathic Medicine. She then completed internal medicine residency at Drexel University/Hahnemann Hospital in Philadelphia, followed by hematology and medical oncology fellowship at the Northwell Health Cancer Institute. She remains dedicated to the world of nonprofit by participating on the advisory board of Unite for Health.
